Car history:
Factory Produced 427c.i. / 435hp Car!! Completely Fresh - Owned & Built by Local Vintage Race Car Driver. Nicely Done High Performance '68 Vette. This particular Corvette is not for everyone. Why? Well, for several reasons. First, the car is extremely high performance and, frankly, belongs in the hands of an experienced, capable driver. Second, while many true enthusiasts will find the wide range of both performance and cosmetic modifications very appealing, the Corvette is not a totally stock example. Finally, if you have any concerns about being noticed, being asked questions about your car or being the center of attention whenever you stop, this may not be the car for you!! The owner of the Corvette has been an active and competitive participant in vintage road racing for many years. He has the experience and capabilities to handle a car with an estimated 500~ horsepower. He actually built the car for his daughter to use but her interests in road racing took her in another direction. So, after having the car built by the same specialist that build and maintain his collection of high end vintage racing automobiles, he has decided to sell the Corvette so that it does not go unused and can be appreciated by another enthusiast. When the current owner acquired the car several years ago, the car had a history of being in California for many years and the current owner was told that he is the third "Caregiver" of the car. When he took possession of the Corvette, the car was in good condition but needed updating. He went through the car completely utilizing the same specialists that perform the work on his high end race cars to complete the mechanical and cosmetic restoration. The car is fresh with beautiful paint, an engine with fewer than 100 miles on the 427 cid engine and new suspension and other components. Our experience tells us that Corvette owners are some of the most particular automotive enthusiasts that we encounter. They can be very particular when it comes to the care and maintenance of their Vettes and, that is certainly the case with this particular example. Mr. Y has taken excellent care of this car both from a mechanical and cosmetic perspective. Of course, the engine has been bench tested (specifications listed below) and the car has been driven to sort the new components. NOTE: The car is still settling on its new suspension and the ride height is still higher than it should be. The appropriate adjustments should be made to the rear suspension once the car has been driven several hundred additional miles so it is fully "settled." 1968 CORVETTE - FACTORY EQUIPMENT - Based on Corvette "Order Copy"/ "Build Sheet" (Framed & Included with Car)

Needless to say, only an actual dynamometer will produce accurate results but this program provides a good idea of the cars horsepower and is certainly consistent with its strong performance characteristics.
VEHICLE CONDITION - COSMETIC & MECHANCIAL: From a mechanical perspective we can find absolutely no issues with the Corvette. In fact, our independent inspection (completed within the previous 1 week) of the 1968 Corvette revealed no issues, problems, or weak points with this car. This certainly came as no surprise considering the way the car drives and has been cared for, but we always take the extra step to ensure that we receive and totally objective, 3rd party evaluation of the cars mechanical condition, any possible previous accident damage, etc. Also, we provide underside / undercarriage photographs that, in this instance, reflect a clean, rust free and damage free underside. As we have indicated, this car has been very well built using high quality components and excellent mechanics that are accustomed to working on very costly and valuable vintage racing cars. The car is truly "Fresh" and the expensive engine (estimated investment of over $12,000) has just been broken in. The Corvette's "mature" owner has never abused, raced, tracked the car or driven it in a manner that would damage the Corvette. The list of recent improvements and upgrades have been completed within the previous 500 miles (engine within 100~ miles) so the car is 100% ready to go! Finally, not only is the car mechanically strong, free from oil and transmission leaks and other problems that commonly exist on older Corvettes, the engine and engine bay are absolutely beautiful. The "Tri-Power" set up is sparkling clean as is the block / heads from both the topside and bottom. The chrome accents, high quality red ignition wires and other engine bay components show a level of detail that supports that the car was constructed by professionals and done properly with a "No Expenses Spared" philosophy. The underside of the car is, as the photos reflect very clean with a rust free, totally straight chassis and the considerable recent work on the brakes, suspension, engine, clutch and other mechanical components is obvious from the photographs.
COSMETIC CONDITION: The Corvette is in excellent overall cosmetic condition both inside and out. The extensive photographs accurately reflect the car's condition including the body, paint, interior and even the underside of the car.
EXTERIOR: The exterior is virtually free from any sings of damage including the typical "road rash" that is often times found on the front of the Corvette's as a result of the "sloping" nose. The paint work is a very high quality two-stage job that was completed recently. The stripes were properly color sanded and clear coat applied so that they are smooth.
The paint is extremely high gloss, laid very flat and totally free from any partial touch-up, partial repainting or body work. The flares are free from any cracks or separation and were professionally (very well done) installed. There are no signs of previous body damage or repairs that we can find and the previous owner indicates that his history on the car suggests that it is devoid of any major accident damage. The lenses and other exterior trim are free from cracks and damage and look like new. The glass is free from cracks, and the windshield has no "stars", chips, or cracks. The bumpers are totally damage free and do not have even the smallest scratches and chips often times found on the large painted surfaces. The removable rear window is in excellent condition (refer to photo of the window off car). The car has a history of being in California for its entire life and..it shows! The car is currently shod with an older set (4) of B.F. Goodrich T/A radials that are mounted to Cragar wheels. The wheels are in good original condition and have center mounted spinners (one missing). If the new owner is going to retain the Cragar's, we will be glad to provide a new set of matching center wheels spinners to the new owner.
INTERIOR: The interior of the Corvette is in very nice original condition and has had virtually no modifications with the exception of a replacement radio and a temperature gauge (period style SW) added to the lower dash area. The temperature gauge was added in order to ensure accurate monitoring of the big blocks "vital signs." The factory gauge reads 15-20 degrees higher than the SW gauge but the accurate gauge (SW) indicates that the Corvette runs cool, even with California's warm Northern California ambient temperatures.
A review of the photographs of the interior reveals the excellent of condition of the stock interior of the Corvette. The interior is very original and presents well for a Corvette of this vintage. The front seats, rear seats, door panels, dash and interior trim pieces are all very good and free from any defects. In fact, the front seats (front and rear) have no damage, rips, tears or signs of wear. The carpet is in good condition with the exception of a few signs of wear under the "Corvette" floor mats. The front floors are covered by floor mats that enhance the overall appearance of the interior areas.
The top of the dash is finished in black and is also in excellent condition. It is free from cracks, splits, or damage. It is rare, indeed that we see a mid-60's car with a damage free dash pad/dash, but that is the case with this Corvette. Additionally, the gauges are clear and fully functional. We did notice on our drive to take photographs that, occasionally, the speedometer does have a tendency to "bounce around" and we imagine does not indicate the true mileage considering the cars over sized rear tires.
The side door panels are in good original condition, and have never had any speakers mounted. The seat belts (lap) are factory original (including optional harnesses that do not appear to have been used), free of any significant fraying or damage, as are the receiving parts of the seat belt units. The car was equipped with a desirable 4-Speed transmission and the "4-Speed" shift ball shows great original patina. The door sills and door jambs are clean and free from dirt and grease. The cars aftermarket AM/FM radio does not appear to be working at this time. The lighting system including the pop-up headlights is fully functional and the car passed California's required safety inspection for working wipers, turn signals, lights, brakes, tires, etc.
DRIVING THIS CORVETTE: So, cinch that seatbelt tightly, adjust the seat and all of the mirrors and get ready for an "E-Ticket" ride. With over 500 hearty horses and almost as much torque, this car pulls like a freight train. The G-forces put you back in the seat as you power up a straightaway. Take even a short spin and you'll fall head over heels in lust, but spend some serious seat time with this power monster, as we did recently in a recent, brief ride in the Corvette and you'll crave its addictive muscle. And then there's the sound. There is nothing like the "music" that comes from a well tuned, side pipe fitted, 427 cid big-block with over 550 horsepower. This car is definitely not for the faint of heart and will have kids and animals scattering as you make your way through the neighborhood. Unlike some high performance cars that we have driven, this car is actually great to drive. The quality of the build is evident and the car runs and drives very well. The clutch engages properly and without chatter, noise or any slippage (recently freshened within 100 miles along with the engine). The transmission shifts very well and there are no issues with the syncromesh gears, no noise or popping out of gear. The remainder of the drive-line is very solid and free from any issues. The brakes have been recently upgraded so the car stops straight. The steering rack was replaced and the cars steering response is excellent. The tires have very good tread but we highly recommend a more "serious" set for the type of performance that this car offers. They are older and a fresh set of tires would be a logical (and inexpensive investment. Finally, we took this car out for a quick drive and, frankly, couldn't get back to our office! People are drawn to the sound and appearance of this 'Vette and want to discuss everything from the size of the engine to the horsepower and "What'll she do in the quarter mile." Fair warning..be prepared to answer a lot of questions!!
We do feel confident that if this particular car crossed the auction block at one of the major Scottsdale auctions it would generate considerable interest as a result of its overall condition, documentation as an original 427/435 car, striking cosmetic restoration and strong mechanicals.
At this writing, the Corvette's mileage reads 80,541 miles. While we are unable to document the cars actual mileage as a result of its age, based on the condition of the interior, undercarriage and other areas it is certainly possible that the cars mileage is correct. Color codes from the trim plate. Built date is I15. May 7, 2010.
